How to create Google Maps API key

Here is the step by step guide to generating Google Maps API key. 

What is a Google Maps API key?

A Google Maps API key is a peculiar code provided by Google which will allow you access to the  Google Maps on your site. 

Your API key provides you with a quota of Google Map queries. Your Google account will be automatically billed for any usage that exceeds or as per the pricing range defined by Google.

 

Why do I need it for?

Any uKnowva instances using the following functions have the Google Maps API key embedded in them :

uKnowva Functionalities in use:

  • Virtual Biometric 

  • Local Conveyance 

  • ATP requests

If your instance has any of the above features implemented, you would need a Google Maps API key.

Please note: Google Maps is a third party service that we have integrated in our solution and as per our terms of use the cost of such third party services has to be borne by Customer if they wish to avail the same. Setting up your own API key is not mandatory for you to use uKnowva, you may do so only if you wish to use the maps based functionalities without interruption

 

How to generate the Google Maps API key?

 Follow the below steps :

Step 1: Go to Google Maps Platform

Step 2: Create a Project 

Step 3: Create a billing account in Google maps 

Step 4: Generate Google Maps API key

Step 5: Update the key in uKnowva Configurations ( For instances with Virtual Biometric)

Step 6: Update the key to uKnowva helpdesk ( For instances with Local conveyance and ATP  request functionality implemented by uKnowva)

Details to be followed in every step are mentioned below:

Step 1: Go to Google Maps Platform

1.1  Go to Google Maps Platform

1.2  Click on ‘Get Started’

 

1.3 Here you will be asked to create a google account or you can login with an existing one.

1.4 In the pop up that comes up, tick all three options:  Maps, Routes and Places. Click on Continue.

Step 2: Create a Project

2.1  Now in the pop up that appears Enter the New Project name. Select the ‘Yes’ to agree to

the terms of services related to the API. And Click on ‘Next’.

 

Step 3: Create a billing account in Google maps 

3.1  Next window will appear wherein you can click on ‘Create Billing Account’

 

3.2  Follow the Steps and fill information accordingly. And click on Continue

 

 

3.3  Window for creating the Billing account will appear wherein all details regarding Billing can be filled. Click on ‘Create Paid Maps Billing Account’

 

 

Step 4: Generate Google Maps API key

4.1  Fill all the Contact details and Billing card information. On completion, you will be asked to Enable Google Maps Platform. Click on Next.

 

 

 

Step 5: Update the key in uKnowva Configurations ( For instances with Virtual Biometric)

 

5.1 Go to your uKnowva instance 

5.2 Login with the Admin Login

5.3 Click on the profile icon in the rightmost corner, and select ‘Uknowva Configuration’

 

 

5.4 Go to ‘Plugin Manager’ from the Left Menus

 

5.5  Search for ‘Virtual Biometric’ in the search option

 

 

5.6  Click on the ‘Virtual Biometric - Attendance Tracker’

5.7 Mention your Google API key in  ‘ Google maps API key’ and save.

 

 

Step 6: Update the key to uKnowva helpdesk ( For instances with Local conveyance and ATP  request functionality implemented by uKnowva)

 

6.1  For instances using Local conveyance and ATP functionality, please write to uknowva helpdesk ( This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) mentioning the Google API key. The same will be updated for you by the uknowva support.

  2. Maps JavaScript API
