Overview
At uKnowva HRMS, we believe workplace technology should be accessible to everyone. Accessibility is an essential part of creating an inclusive digital experience that enables all employees, including people with disabilities, to use the platform effectively and independently.
uKnowva HRMS is designed to support the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), helping organizations create an accessible digital workplace while meeting modern accessibility requirements.
By enabling the Accessibility configuration in your uKnowva HRMS instance, the application follows accessibility best practices aligned with W3C Web Accessibility standards (WCAG), improving usability for individuals with visual, auditory, cognitive, and motor disabilities.
What is WCAG?
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) are internationally recognized accessibility standards developed by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) through its Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI).
These guidelines provide recommendations for making websites and web applications accessible to people with disabilities while improving usability for everyone, regardless of their device, browser, or assistive technology.
WCAG helps organizations ensure that digital experiences are:
-
Accessible to people with visual impairments
-
Usable by individuals with hearing disabilities
-
Easy to navigate for users with motor impairments
-
Understandable for people with cognitive or learning disabilities
-
Compatible with assistive technologies such as screen readers, screen magnifiers, voice navigation, and keyboard-only navigation
WCAG Principles
The WCAG guidelines are based on four fundamental principles, commonly referred to as POUR.
Perceivable
Information and user interface components should be presented in ways that users can perceive.
This includes providing sufficient color contrast, readable text, alternative text for images, and content that can be understood by assistive technologies.
Operable
Users should be able to navigate and interact with the application using different input methods.
This includes full keyboard accessibility, clear navigation, visible focus indicators, and sufficient time to complete actions.
Understandable
The interface and information should be easy to understand.
Labels, instructions, navigation, and workflows should remain consistent throughout the application to reduce confusion.
Robust
Content should be compatible with modern browsers, assistive technologies, and future accessibility tools by following recognized web standards.

Real-World Accessibility Example
One of our enterprise customers enabled the Accessibility setting in their uKnowva HRMS instance to make the platform more accessible for employees who relied on assistive technologies.
Employees were able to navigate the application efficiently using the Tab key, allowing them to move through menus, buttons, links, and form fields without using a mouse. In addition, employees using screen readers could access and interact with the application more effectively, making it easier to complete everyday HR tasks independently.
For example, employees could:
-
Navigate through the login page and dashboard using the Tab key.
-
Access modules such as Leave, Attendance, Payroll, and Helpdesk using keyboard navigation.
-
Move between form fields while submitting requests without relying on a mouse.
-
Activate buttons using the Enter or Space key.
-
Use screen readers to read page content, identify form fields, navigate menus, and interact with supported interface elements.
By enabling Accessibility Mode, the organization created a more inclusive digital workplace for employees with motor, visual, and other accessibility needs. This demonstrates how uKnowva HRMS supports accessible interaction through keyboard navigation and compatibility with assistive technologies while aligning with WCAG accessibility best practices.
